The Salvation Army Shoe Fund

Since 1980, you have helped us raise more than 1.3 million dollars to provide new properly fitting shoes to over 44,000 local school children in need. The Salvation Army will walk the distance!

How It Works

The Salvation Army works closely with local school nurses and counselors to identify children in need of shoes. Recipients then are given a $30 certificate toward the purchase of new shoes from a participating retailer.

The History Of The Shoe Fund

Brian Strobel

The need for this program was discovered in 1980 by local radio personality Brian Strobel.  Brian not only brought the program to life, but gave The Shoe Fund a face and a voice throughout the Fredericksburg area. Each year, the program grew and grew and kept up with the demand for shoes for area children who needed them.  Brian’s passion for this program was undeniable and even though he was taken from us way too early in life, his wife Jenny and sons Nathan and Noah are deeply committed to insure the longevity and success of The Shoe Fund.

Shoes!  They are a necessary part of our wardrobe that we really don’t think about. After all, everyone needs them and has them, right? Unfortunately, in our very community, there are children that are wearing worn or ill-fitting shoes. This makes it difficult to do all of the things that a child should be doing. This year, The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Thunder 104.5 and SuperHits 95.9 Radio are joining forces to make sure thousands of area children are given new, properly fitted shoes. Families are struggling to do their best, and sometimes that means using hand-me-down or torn shoes or even shoes that are not appropriate for cold or damp weather Text shoefund to 51555.
